RCAN Secures Severn Trent Community Fund Grant to Support Rural Community Halls

Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire (RCAN) is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £11,616 from the Severn Trent Community Fund to support rural communities across Nottinghamshire.

The funding will enable RCAN to continue delivering its highly valued Cluster Groups and peer learning events for volunteers who manage village and community halls. These sessions provide practical guidance, shared learning, and vital peer support on topics such as governance, funding, and succession planning—helping ensure community buildings remain open, inclusive, and sustainable.

Rural community halls are often the heart of village life, particularly for older residents and those at risk of isolation. By supporting the volunteers who run these spaces, RCAN helps strengthen local resilience, reduce loneliness, and improve wellbeing across rural areas.

The grant will help replace reduced local authority income and ensure these sessions remain free to attend, removing barriers for volunteers and small committees.

RCAN works countywide to empower rural communities, offering advice, training, and advocacy to help villages thrive. This investment from Severn Trent will help safeguard essential support for community hubs that play a crucial role in rural life.
